The Northbridge takes its name from Northbridge Baths in Sydney's north — one of a series of Handle & Kate pieces named after the ocean pools that have shaped Sydney's coastal communities for generations.The petite ocean pools lends its name to the smallest piece in the Handle & Kate collection: a knob that is modest in scale but considered in every detail.
The form is compact and rounded, sitting neatly within the hand with a 42mm diameter profile and 32mm projection. Its small footprint makes it particularly well suited to fine joinery — drawers, small cabinet doors, and furniture pieces. Designers frequently specify it for bathroom vanities, bedroom joinery, and bespoke furniture commissions where restraint is part of the design intention.
Slip cast on Gadigal & Bidjigal Country in Sydney from a local clay with porcelain qualities, each Northbridge is trimmed and finished by hand before being bisque fired, glazed and glaze fired in our studio. The rounded profile reads softly against cabinetry, complementing both contemporary flat-front joinery and more traditional detailed work.
The Northbridge is available in eight glaze finishes, ranging from the gloss depth of Black Pearl and White Caps to the feel of satin matte glazes Salt Spray and Squid Ink Black. The sheer glazes — Lagoon, Deep Sea, Oyster and Crystal Clear — are particularly suited to interiors where the clay body itself is part of the design intention, allowing the porcelain to read through the finish. All glazes are food safe and waterproof, making the Northbridge appropriate for wet areas and outdoor cabinetry as well as interior settings.
