Established in 2018 by Kate and Clare Munnelly, Handle & Kate Pty Ltd is working to return the materiality of glazed porcelain to the elements of the home that you touch.

Celebrating hand-made objects that enrich your lives in little ways. Our practice is focused on making as sustainably and locally as possible.

Handle & Kate slip casting using Sydney clay

The hand-made

We slip cast our objects, using plaster moulds that are hand-made in Sydney. Once cast we trim by hand, then bisque fire. Once bisque fired we brush on your glaze of choice and finally glaze fire. Once we have your pieces out of the kiln we vice into place your plugs (that are made locally) so that everything is ready to be installed into your spaces. This whole process takes place in Sydney using clay and suppliers.

We prioritise the hand-made because we believe that inserting hand-made objects into a machine-made, mass-produced environment can be grounding and enrich our experience of the everyday.

Family-run, the company is committed to maintaining its production in Sydney while developing its community internationally.

We are working hard to try to improve our shipping and courier connections to better connect us to our community while keeping our footprint to a minimum.

We design and make in Sydney so that we can continue to improve and evolve our process but also so that we protect our workers with government set minimum wages, insurance and pension benefits.

Making responsibly

We make-to-order, use local clay, we reclaim and reuse our waste clay, recycle any seconds, use recycled inputs for our plugs and packaging, the list goes on but there is always more to do.
