Malabar in Yolo by Pattern Studio

Malabar in Yolo by Pattern Studio

When Sydney interior design studio Pattern Studio set out to transform the upper floor of a Victorian terrace in Surry Hills into a compact but livable home, every design and material decision was made with precision. The clients — Nicola and Orlando Reindorf, founders of fashion retailer The Standard Store — wanted a space that felt considered and alive, not merely downsized.

The kitchen, produced by luxury joinery studio Élan, centres on a stainless-steel and Madrona burl island — a material pairing that is at once industrial and warm. Handle & Kate's Malabar cabinet handles, specified in the Lagoon glaze, were chosen to finish the cabinetry. The sheer blue-green of Lagoon sits against the steel and burl with exactly the kind of quiet confidence that Pattern Studio is known for: a detail that rewards close attention without demanding it.

The project was featured in Vogue Australia in November 2024. Read the full feature here.
