Clovelly Cabinet Handles in Kin House

When architect Ava Shirley approached the extension of an 1880s heritage-listed miner's cottage, the challenge was to honour the original dwelling while meeting the needs of a contemporary multigenerational family. The result — built by Beach Houses Australia — is a home that moves between periods: off-form concrete, timber pivot doors and terrazzo heated floors sit in quiet conversation with the restored cottage's original character.

Handle & Kate's Clovelly cabinet handles, specified in the 220mm length and Oyster glaze, were chosen to finish the cabinetry throughout. The sheer grey-brown of Oyster reads differently depending on the light — warm against timber, cool against concrete — making it a considered choice for an interior that itself shifts between moods and materials.

Kin House received a Master Builders Australia Award for exceptional craftsmanship, and Ava Shirley Architect was shortlisted for the EmAGN Project Award at the 2022 NSW Architecture Awards. For more about the project click here.
